About Tony

Tony Sano '87 was a professor of music at SUNY Schenectady for many years, and former president of the college faculty. An avid musician and classical guitarist with great passion for music and teaching, Tony performed and recorded with the Empire Jazz Orchestra and many other musical groups.

Consistent with Tony's wishes, a scholarship has been set up to help talented music students who choose to attend SUNY Schenectady for their education.

The Tony Sano '87 Memorial Concert will feature guitarists performing music from many genres including Classical, Latin America, Modern and Jazz. Performers will include: former students Paul Quigley and Kevin Grudecki; Tony's first classical guitar teacher Ray Andrews; fellow colleagues Brett Wery, Joel Brown and Sten Isachsen. Some of the composers represented will be Vivaldi, Bach, Piazzolla, Hidemith, Brown and Wery.
